This was a really great episode though, up there with the segment earlier this year with the speech in Liberio. Everything is on the line now and as we move into the final episode, big question marks remain over the direction this one is likely to take next.
The fourth and final season first premiered on December 7, 2020;[1] the second part of the season premiered on January 10, 2022,[2] and the third and final part will air in two halves; the first half, a one-hour special, premiered on March 4, 2023.[3][4][5] As of March 4, 2023,[update] 88 episodes of Attack on Titan have aired, currently in its fourth season.
The English dubbed version of the first three seasons of Attack on Titan have aired on Adult Swim's Toonami block, with the series first airing on the block on May 3, 2014.[1] Season two premiered on Toonami from April 22, 2017 to July 22, 2017. Season three premiered on Toonami from August 18, 2018 to July 27, 2019. The first half of the final season premiered on Toonami from January 9, 2021 to May 1, 2021, with reruns continuing through August 28, 2021.[9] The second half of the final season premiered on Toonami from February 12, 2022 to April 30, 2022.[10] The series is rated TV-14-DLSV and TV-MA on Adult Swim.
In Japan, season 1 of Attack on Titan aired from April 6, 2013[11] to September 28, 2013 on MBS and later aired on Tokyo MX, FBS, TOS, HTB, TVA and BS11. Season 2 began airing in Japan, on the same networks, on April 1, 2017.[12] Following the broadcast of the second season's last episode, a third season was announced.[18] The third season aired on NHK from July 22, 2018[19] to June 30, 2019. The fourth and final season was split into three parts. The first part premiered on NHK from December 6, 2020 to March 28, 2021. Part 2 premiered from January 9, 2022 to April 3, 2022.[15] A third part is set to premiere in 2023.[16]
Season 2 was first announced to be premiering on Toonami during the special April Fools stream of a new episode of Rick and Morty on adultswim.com.[12] Season 2 was first announced with a premiere date of April 29, 2017, but days later it was moved up to April 22nd.[3] On July 29, 2017, after the completion of the second season, reruns of the season were moved to the 3:00 AM time slot.[22] On October 21, 2017, the series was replaced in the lineup with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG.[4]
It was announced on July 16, 2018, that season 3 would premiere on Toonami on August 18th at 11:00 PM.[5][6] With 12 episodes aired, season 3 went on a lengthy hiatus in Japan from October 15, 2018 to April 29, 2019.[23] Due to this hiatus, after a marathon of the first 12 episodes of season 3 aired on November 17th[24], reruns of season 3 began airing on Toonami the following week.
On December 8, 2018, reruns of the series were moved to the 2:00 AM time slot until it was moved again to the 3:30 AM time slot on January 5, 2019, where reruns of season 3 continued to air.[25] From March 2nd through May 18th, reruns of the first 12 episodes of season 1 were aired. New episodes of season 3 returned to Toonami on May 25, 2019 at 11:30 PM.[26] On July 20, 2019, a second episode of Attack on Titan replaced Sword Art Online: Alicization in the 12:00-12:30 AM time slot for one week only.[27] The final episode of season 3 aired at 11:30 PM the following week. Subsequently, the series was replaced in the lineup by gen:LOCK.[28]
The first part of the final season made its Toonami premiere on January 9, 2021 at 12:30 AM, extending the block by a half hour.[9] Due to severe weather conditions in the state of Texas, where the English dub was produced, the production was delayed forcing Toonami to rerun February 27th's premiere episode again on March 6th.[30] After episode 75 premiered on May 1, 2021, and due to the series being on hiatus in Japan until 2022, reruns of the first half of the final season moved to the 3:30 AM time slot.[31] The series moved to the 3:00 AM time slot on May 29, 2021.[32] The series was removed from Toonami following the August 28, 2021 broadcast and was subsequently replaced in the lineup by reruns of Dr. Stone.
The second half of the final season premiered on Toonami on February 12, 2022 at 12:30 AM, replacing Blade Runner: Black Lotus.[10] The finale of part two of the final season made its Toonami premiere on April 30, 2022 and reruns of the series subsequently began airing at 3:30 AM on May 14, 2022.[33] The series was removed from the block following the August 6, 2022 broadcast and was replaced in the lineup by Made in Abyss.
One of Attack on Titan's most crucial story elements has finally been explicitly introduced in the anime. The element in question is what Zeke referred to as 'the Paths' in the latest episode. It's not the first time the Paths have been shown or mentioned in the show. It's simply the first time that an official name has been given to it. 59ce067264
